STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Pastoral Care: At Tudor College we aim to ensure that students are free of unnecessary complications to the practical issues of living away from home. Parents and students can relax and feel safe in the knowledge that all possible care is extended to every student. We offer assistance with Visa applications, arrange a student pass for cheaper public transport, help with accommodation, medical issues, opening a bank account, work regulations and obtaining part-time work and general information the student may find useful. Students have automatic membership of International Student House where they will mix with the students of all the UoL Colleges and many of the private Colleges as well.

Health Services:  The U.K Government provides health services through the National Health Services (NHS) and Tudor College students are covered under this provision.  Upon arrival, students should register with the Doctor local to their residential address for which they will need their Enrolment letter.

Work Permission:  Full time students are allowed to work only 20 hours per week but full time during Easter, Xmas and summer holidays. Students need only show their enrolment letter in order to accept employment.

Student Bank Account: Tudor College has made a special arrangement for students to open a bank account at the local branch of LloydsTSB. All is needed is a letter if introduction which will be given upon enrolment.

Visa Services : Documentation to assist students to obtain an Entry Visa to the UK will be made available after the student has been granted admission and the required deposit paid. Students requiring an extension to an existing student visa will be given the required documentation providing the attendance record is satisfactory.

Library:  TCL has its own library. However there are many other libraries in London including the well renowned British Library.  In addition there are local public libraries.

Travel:   Concession tickets for Bus and Underground travel are available to students.

 Airport Collection

We can arrange for you to be met at the airport by a taxi company which will take you to your accommodation or the College as appropriate. The pickup fee is around £50 - £60.  If your flight is delayed you will have to pay for the additional waiting time.  Please ensure that you have at least £100 cash to pay the taxi driver yourself.  If you would like to be 'collected' at the airport, you must inform the College of your flight details as soon as you have them - at least 48 hours in advance.  Flight details include name of airline, flight number, date and time of arrival, country of departure (airport) and time and the airport at which you arrive in London (Heathrow, Gatwick etc)

Alternatively, you can take the underground, airport bus, coach or a taxi that comes into central London.

Heathrow Airport

From London Heathrow Airport - you can take the underground Piccadilly Line which goes directly to central London and to Russell Square which is one of the nearest underground station to Tudor College. It is then a short walk to the college campus. Alternatively, you can take the Heathrow Express rail service to Paddington.

Gatwick Airport

From Gatwick Airport you can take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria station.  If you wish to come to Tudor College - take the underground Victoria Line which does directly to King's Cross St Pancras and then a short walk to the college campus.

Accommodation

At Tudor College we recognise how important it is to assist our students to find suitable accommodation.  We do not provide accomodation but the Accommodation Officer can provide you with a list agencies who can book temporary accommodation while you look for a room, as well as giving advice and information on the different alternatives.

Student Hostels

From £85 per week for a single room.  These are buildings which provide study bedrooms with shared bathrooms and other facilities. This offers the opportunity to get to know students from different colleges.

Student Hostels are very popular and are an ideal way of meeting people. Some are self-catering and some provide meals. Hostels are particularly suitable for students interested in long-term accommodation.  There are many different hostels in London to choose from. The Accommodation Office can provide a Hostel Guide, application forms, and give advice. Early applications are recommended as hostels are usually fully-booked in advance of the September and February registration periods.  Please note that some hostels require students to move out during term holidays.

Host Families

Up to £130 per week for a single room with meals. Living with host families is a good way to settle into the London way of life and improve English conversation.  Please book early to ensure this option is available at least 4 weeks before your date of arrival in London.

You can opt for a room in a family house with breakfast and evening meal (full board), or breakfast only (part board). All accommodation is carefully selected, inspected and monitored by a Host Family agency to make sure your stay is comfortable.  Approximate weekly costs are as follows:

Full board: £120 - £130

Part board: £90 - £105

Please apply in good time as host families are particularly popular with overseas students.

Flat and house sharing

£70 - £100 per week for a single room.  This involves renting a single room within a flat or a house from a private landlord. Kitchen and other facilities are shared with other members of the household.  You will need to have sufficient finance to cover one month's rent in advance, one months deposit and utilities bills such as electricity, gas, water, telephone and council tax.

Bed and Breakfast

Bed and Breakfast rooms cost around £30 - £40 per night and would require at least one week’s notice.
